@Irlanda I am assuming you got that from "FreeHansIsland.com"? That is a mock website, from a Danish perspective. The site actually says "The Canadian government has not denied the allegations that they plan to use Hans Island as a storage site for nuclear waste.", because there are no official allegations to deny. And neither Denmark or Canada offer any services to the island, because it is just a small rock. That website is just a funny joke, with statements like: "Since the first Canadian occupation, large quantities of Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO) has been observed on and around Hans Island." The dispute is a friendly one because the maritime territory line actually runs across the island, leaving the island in an unofficial limbo since the treaty defining the border only discusses the waters. There has never been any strong reason to clarify the territory as it is essentially worthless right now (The waters around it are already split down the middle, so the acquisition of a rocky island wont change resource rights very much), yet more likely than not they will just divide it down the middle. What does matter to Canada is trying enforce the claim over the Arctic territory between it's other islands as the ice melts since the USA doesn't recognize them as internal waters and will not ratify the "United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea" treaty the other Arctic nations have agreed upon.
