Fan Art: WW1. The Aftermath...

My history teacher triggered this picture off!
And im pretty please with outcome!
Okay! WW1 stared when the Archduke of Austria-Hungary got assassinated. So war was decleared.
Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy were the Triple Alliances and France Britain and Russia was the Triple Entente.
Germany more or less took over the war against them but Russia dropped out because of the Russian Revolution at that time. Therefore, America stood in for the Triple Entente!
Germany had organised the Von Schlieffen plan. Invade France then Belguim then back to Germany.
After the Armesist and the war was decleared over. The winners signed a treaty to get Germany back. All the other countries signed it but Germany, they werent allowed to.
France wanted the most out of the Germans, they had destroyed France.
England wanted their own back but were scared Germany would turn commuinist.
America just wanted a little pay back but didnt want them to do it again.
So the Germans gave up a huge amount of land to make new countries. They werent allowed to go to Rhineland because it was near France. They had to pay money to all the winners until 1988. They were only allowed an army of 100,000 people, no navy, tanks, subramines or air force and Gemany wasnt allowed to unite with Austria. They also had to accept they started the war, when really it was Austria-Hungary. ]

Of corse its The Triple Entente bullying Germany and Austria-Hungary is the little dude lauging at Germany.
So there your little history lesson! ^^
And im sorry about my scruffy handwriting!

The French weren't mad cause the Germans destroyed France, just for what they did during the Franco-Prussian war, which humiliated the French, and took away Alsasce Loraine.
The Von Schlieffen plan was a plan on how to end the war quickly before the Russian joined in. It was to invade France through Belgium, and take down Paris, and then attack England, and then after that, they would decimate the Russians. The reason the plan failed was the Belgian held out longer than expected, and the Russian attacked sooner than expected. The Russians almost dropped out of the war in March of 1917, because of their first revolution, but finally dropped out due to their second more famous revolution in November. The US replaced the Russians , and helped turned the tide of war for the Entente, giving them fresh supplies and soldiers. Once the Germans surrendered in 1918, American President Woodrow Wilson proposed the Fourteen Points, which would have been more about free trade, no more empires, self determination (self governing colonies), etc. The other Allies (Britain, France, Italy, and Japan) on the other hand, decided to punish Germany for the war, and made the Versailles Treaty, the worst treaty ever. It took so much land from Germany, and Russia, made it so the Germans couldn't have a navy, go past the Rhine river, and much more. The US didn't like this treaty, and Congress did not approve it at all, but the US gave Germany loans to pay their reperations after the war.

And without the "Nibelungentreue" of Germany (unquestioning loyalty unto death) the war wouldn't have escalated. Funny enough Nibelungentreue, which refers to the loyalty of the Burgunds in the Nibelungenlied / song of the Nibelungs (the major national epic of Germany), is a loyalty to a criminal and murderer among them. Austria was mainly driven by Germanys thirst for war at that time, without German backup they couldn't have done any major action.

The war guilt question ist on of the most heavily discussed ones among german historians (Fischer discussion, 1959-1985). Result is roughly: The single guilt that was dictated in Versailles doesn't stand; the thesis of just circumstances and a general "will for war in all countries" and Germany as completely guiltless even so (the latter was a common claim in Germany until long after WW2); but Germany had major responsibility and had enough chances to single-handedly stop the war but it just didn't want to. Germany / Prussia was a militarised society (lots of reserver soldiers) with an anachronistic political system at that time; the victories in the last wars (1864,1866,1871) were highly honored but a generation away. They wanted war. A short, victorious one, of course, like the last ones. With lots of medals and promotions and heros, like in the stories they heard everyday. Yes, it is that simple sometimes.

@scandinaviarock98
well, you didnt mention, that Italy actually backstabbed Germany and Austria-Hungary and joined Entente side, while germans and austrians made alliance with turkey

Well Austria-Hungary didn't snigger after WW1. We're still crying about how it ended (especially Hungarians).
