Fan Art: Brother South
Finally I can upload my own fanart from weeks ago. This is, as I view it, the Southern States of the USA- known to USers as Brother South. He's wearing,
*a straight forward cowboy hat more like the ones worn in the original old west then the curled brim ones of popular country culture today (which I suspect sister south would wear).
*a confederate battle flag sleeveless teeshirt for two reason, one the south is much hotter than the north -plus none of us can afford sleeves, i.e. the south is seen as very poor the poorest states in the USA- I made them torn so you could actually distinguish he was always sleeveless instead of just armless. And secondly, because many in the south have adopted the Confederate Battle Flag as a representation of the south itself, choosing to embrace a part of History that is uniquely American and try to keep a portion of Original American culture alive (despite some nay sayers claims we have no culture of our own.) and despite outcrys of it being seen as racist/unpatriotic. Many who wear it readily explain it is meant to honor and remind us of those who fell in honor of it and to remind America itself that yes, there are Americans who will fight to prevent tyranny here at home.
*a bible belt buckle. Southerners, especially Texans, are known if not proud of their massive belt buckles befitting the WWE, but it also speaks of the 'bible belt' area in America which sits almost squarely in the south. Home to 'bible thumpers' who stereotypically ignore or outright hate anything not in the Christian Bible. It is also a stereotypical nod to the 'lack of education' rampant in the south.
*Lastly he carries a gun. All the time. But not just a pistol as Brother America would sometime pull out, no, a full fledged hunting rifle complete with scope. This is in reference to the stereotype that all southerners are NRA gun freaks (and republican) with a gun rack in every truck, and more bullets than brains. He openly carries it everywhere he goes as a clear reminder of the (stereotypically) most important amendment. The right to bear arms.
*I gave him a beard in honor of the southern pension to grow long facial hair, especially mountain men, and if you remove his hat you will find... a mullet.
*If he smiles, which he'll do very often around strangers but very rarely around Brother America you'll notice he's missing a few teeth. This is due to the stereotype that most Southerners have no dental hygiene and yet at the same time are very friendly to outsiders. Almost TOO friendly. I decided to go with the 'gullible dumb southerner with southern hospitality instead of the xenophobic 'get off my land' southerner seeing as how pretty much all of America seems to have that covered quite well. Sadly it also acknowledges that some southerners DO lack proper dental hygiene simply because they lack access to dentists and dental plans.
*When he speaks it is with a drawling Southern Accent, which everyone finds charming except Brother America who is always mocking it (even if he has a new york/boston/or any other Northern accent).
Hope you enjoy it -it's really just a sketch- but I think it covers pretty much every base, including stereotypical, of those in part of the USA known as the South.

I LOVE HIM!
I was in Texas this summer, can't say it was a place I loved but neither did I hate it. Summer 2011 having been the hottest in DECADES in the state, us Europeans (especially the more Northern ones) were dying in the heat. I do willingly admit that the attitudes have some weird quirks over there, but at the same time, it's just bloody cool looking to ride into the Texan sunset wearing a cool hat, cowboy boots, a big belt and a gun. And I think this Brother South really has that in him!
