The entire strip was derived from a New York Times article about how if someone sings "My Way" in our shores, that person could get killed.

I did mention in my character profile that Philippines can turn into Finland when he gets extremely mad, and yes it's this particular song that I was referring to.

There is another connection I observed between Philippines and Finland: In Spanish, Italian, Catalan, any language using the Latin alphabet that doesn't use "PH" to represent an "F" sound, and languages that don't use the Latin alphabet like Greek, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, etc, the Philippines is often immediately ahead of Finland.

I decided to let Philippines use "Perkele" (the Finnish swear word) for comedic purposes. He would otherwise use another swear word-- "Putang Ina Mo", "'Tang Ina Mo", or "Puki ng Ina Mo".
