Fan Art: League of Nations and United Nations
My first in a potential series of "International Institutions" to receive embodiments in SATW.
To the left is the League of Nations. Forged from the fires and bloodbaths of the Great War (that is, WWI), this grumpy old pacifist tried to hold the world study and prevent a second World War.
However, he was too weak and touchy-feely in his resolutions, and Nazi Germany and the Axis Powers walked out on him by the end of the 1930s. He failed miserably.
In 1945, after the downfall of the Axis Powers and an Allied victory, a new charter was drafted and a new institution set up.
Enter United Nations. Despite being multinational and, in reality, quite old, he is little more than a paper tiger. The United Nations is a wide-eyed, naive, energetic, happy-go-lucky, and gentle little boy that seems to be everywhere at once.
When he is angered, or when other ask him to get angry, he will take out is ANGRY PEN and write a scathing letter to the country.
United Nations is servile and passive. He never thinks for himself, rather, he just does what everyone tells him to do, whether it furthers his mandate or not. He wants to be everyone's friend, and he's always hanging around any nation he spots.
UN sees the world through rosy-eyed glasses: he thinks everyone will listen to peace and goodwill, and he naively thinks that China or Iran is as good and friendly and righteous as Britain, Scandenavia, or America.
Indeed, this leads to a lot of problems. When UN goes to say hello to Iran or North Korea, they usually mock him and make him cry. He'll run back to his best-best-best-friend forever, America, who'll usually put them in their place with threats.
America finds UN annoying, but is really the only one that really sticks up for him and his ideas every time. Yes, Britain, Canada, and some others do support him every now and then, but America really is the only one that gives a care about him every time.
It doesn't seem that UN will ever get over his childhood innocence and belief that every nation will one day join hands around a campfire and sing "Kumbaya".
