Led zeppelin, Deep purple and the who = Pioneers of hard rock
The beatles, David bowie and Fleetwood Mac for pop
Oh and the new rise of thrash is quite English as well, Evile and Warpath at the fore. We even have prog rock bands like Yes and early Genesis.
