@Maitreya Heh, I must admit I did not experience any of this when I visited Norway. It was a colleague who had lived in Norway who told me. I laughed a little when she also told me that you also don't sell beer on the day you vote wether or not to join the EU. She and I agreed that even a drunk Norwegian would vote no so we could not see the reason for this, except that it is very funny for us Danes ;) My colleague even tricked a caseer to sell her beer on a sunday because the beer had not been "hidden away", so the beer must be alright, she told the poor caseer ;) and it was even the dark strong beer, not alcohol free. We Danes need our beer - especially on sundays!

@Fyngirl: You've got a point there, except you understate your case :o) Actually, stores are required to stay closed on Sundays, with the exception of convenience stores, which aren't allowed to sell beer anyway. You can still get beer in pubs and restaurants if you're feeling desperate, though ;o)

While the reason for keeping stores closed on Sundays was originally religious, it's more of an issue of established labor rights nowadays (one day of the week where employers can't pressure employees to come in and work overtime, even if they want to).

@Maitreya You guys don't sell beer on sundays because it is "churchday". That is just weird... I'm not sure if this is the case around your area, but it is in Bergen
