I visited a few years ago in Houston, Texas, [air conditioning capital of the world] a few years ago where they have a saying: "Texas has 4 seasons: one spring, two summers, and one pure inferno". The summer I was there it was 107ºF. 90% humidity for a couple weeks at a time; It was too hot to breathe, or even think. Then for three days it spiked to 109ºF and when it dropped back to 107ºF. it felt like relief.
On the other hand I took a holiday in Alaska and asked a man from the tiny hamlet of Homer how he dealt with the winter cold. "-40ºF. you can manage in," he said. "But you don' t want to go out of the house at -60ºF." "What's that like?" I said. He though about it a moment. "It's like -40ºF., except colder."
