@Irlanda It's a thing. The worse part is that most Americans forget about the leftovers, or complain how it doesn't taste as good. So a lot of food gets thrown away in general. It's very wasteful, but that's what it is like.
The other issue is that Americans see "fancy" as "small and expensive". When we imagine a fancy European restaurant, we imagine a one ounce piece of meat with sauce and two or three pieces of a vegetable costing 65$.
