@Lilyloverprettygirl9 In the Pacific Northwest (where Washington, Oregon and British Columbia are now), the local native tribes had so much food and other resources that they fought "wars" by throwing parties for each other. They would exchange gifts and food, and the "loser" was the first one to run out (apparently, it wasn't fair to "re-gift"). So, naturally, the white guys screwed it all up and made it illegal. Look up "potlatch", the origin of the American word "pot-luck".
