I can't speak much for before the Reformation, but during and After the Protestant Reformation areas that were predominately Catholic, such as Spain and Italy, were largely unaffected during the Early Modern Period Witch Trials. While there were witch trials in Italy and Spain they were rare, especially as the Inquisition rose to Power. Which is another thing, while the Inquisitions were bad, they were not as bad as they are often made out to be. The Protestants used the existence of the inquisition and their liberal use of torture and execution as a propaganda gold mine. They also greatly exaggerated the frequency of the executions. Do not get me wrong, the Inquisition was bad, just not as bad as many may think and it's important to correct misconceptions about other people, especially when those misconceptions came from out right lies to demonize a large group of people.
