US soldiers do not serve as umbrella of any sort. But, presence of 37,500(!!!) foreign soldiers in neighbouring country is a serious threat. So I sincerely do not see why should not North Korea make demands of that force moving out.
Not sure how their presence affects capability of North Korea to attack, considering that in case of war it would not take too long for US or Japan to send assistance to you anyway. If you mean US army posesses some anti-missile equipment - just buy it or develop your own. Problem solved.
