Odds and Ends
A whole new world

We've got a heck lot more environmental hazards than just global warming. Arguably, messing with the ocean is much more dangerous than increasing the planets temperature. If we screw up the ocean we may find it soon poisonous and being populated by little else than Jellyfish and other critters that thrive in a low-oxygen environment among noxious waste. It would kill biodiversity and possibly set off a mass extinction event for just about everything in the sea.
The ocean contributes roughly half of the oxygen on the planet. Humanity (parts of it) can survive the icecaps melting and the temperature rising. We will /not/ survive without oxygen.
