Only one person has had the title "The Great" in English history, King Alfred the Great (849-899) who decided people should learn English before Latin and is considered "The Father of the nation"

Knud the great was king of England, as well as Denmark and Norway. But maybe the English did not call him that.

One of my ancestors was a prominent Ealdorman who served him, if the names given in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle are accurate. The kid in the Vikings TV show doesn't quite do him justice.
