lol, I guess my suggestion for jokes about the US and tanning beds was a bit moot. Oops, maybe I should read more before I comment, although then I'd have to go back and that sounds like too much work, so no. I'm American, I'm allowed to be lazy.

While the stereotypes listed in this comic and the explanation are certainly not true of every American, there is much truth to them, when generalizing and comparing to other countries, especially the Scandinavian ones. When I lived in Norway, I was really embarrassed sometimes for my country when I saw our tourists. Too many of them were self-centered, ignorant, obese, and stuck out like a sore thumb. As a rule, Americans don't deal well with other cultures. And there are an appalling number of fake breasts here, which I don't get, considering how enormously unattractive I find them.

Simi, while TV and movies do play a huge role in the stereotypes of Americans, many of the ones you are thinking of pre-date the Kardashians, Bieber, and Jersey Shore. Those only reinforced the stereotypes, they didn't create them (given that some of those people weren't even born, and the rest were languishing in the obscurity that they never should have left, when I heard some of those stereotypes, it'd be impossible without time travel to blame them all on those knuckleheads). For example, when I lived there, some people (not many, but some) honestly thought that the guests on the Jerry Springer show were a representative sample of Americans, and the difference between those people and the people you listed is solely in how fast the individuals' 15 minutes were up. But I do agree that being in any way lumped in with the people you mentioned is far more aggravating.
