Norwegian viking Leiv Erikson, son of Eirik Raude, sailed to america at the time they were settlers in Greenland. Eirik Raude couldnt join his son in his quest, because he previously had fallen of his horse and got hurt. Upon discovering America, none were killed (that's at least how researchers estimate it) the vikings traded with the native-americans, rather than raiding and pillaging. Leiv was more of an adventurer than a raider : )
