Well, it's not like our history with slavery is any better than yours :P.

Rugby certainly can be reckless. It depends on the players, but it does lend itself to many injuries and other nasty things happening. At the bottom of the scrum, it's not unusual for people to be bitten, scratched, limbs twisted, etc. It's really anything goes in there. Now, some players are much more reckless than others. We had some that were obviously not at all interested in self-preservation, winning was their only concern, no matter what it did to their bodies. One played with a dislocated shoulder, for example, and didn't shy from contact at all, despite the injury. Broken bones didn't even stop some of them.

I was a backup, not a starter, so I'm not sure how much I was considered by others, as my playing time was limited. I did definitely get some, but not nearly as much as many. I had never even seen a rugby game until my junior year of college, a week before the first time I played, so I was at a bit of a disadvantage. But yeah, I probably was a reckless player, and have the injuries to prove it :P. I did score a few tries, although I managed to avoid having to do my zulu, through some luck (my first was at somewhere that we were very specifically not allowed to, and by the next game, people had forgotten, as I said, I wasn't considered all that much).
