Around here most of our doors can only be opened with keys as well, so it is common practice to make copies of your keys (you take them to people who have workshops for making key copies, the "chaveiros". They literally make a living out of that, though they frequently do other jobs as well since people don't exactly make new copies every day, so most of them basically do all sorts of small metalwork) and have lots of them, typically one in each car, or one for everyone in the family, and some spare ones kept in the house, to prevent this whole "getting trapped inside" from happening.

Most bathroom doors do have inside locks though, for obvious reasons.
