Well, i suppose i must have a bit of English blood running in my veins that i am not aware of then, because i also apologize when i accidentaly touch someone. And then there is this habit here in Brazil, that when someone greets a woman he/she is friends with, they are both supposed to kiss each other in the cheeks; i find this horrendously uncomfortable, almost disturbing, and more often than not i find myself backing off and offering my hand to shake hands instead (or just taking the initiative and offering my hand right away), just like is usually done with men. Sometimes i feel really weird because i'm the only person who is greeting people differently.

TL;DR: around here people love personal contact during greetings, one could say it is part of our culture. It freaks me out though.
