I'd like to say that you're actually misrepresenting the American healthcare system. We don't have a lot of the preventative medicine that European countries have. You get regular checkups if you have healthcare and want it. Hospitals are the major stumbling block. Basically, there's a law saying that hospitals can't turn away patients, regardless of their ability to pay. Because of this, any losses get charged to patients who can. This is far more screwed up than a simple payment for treatment methodology. It's great on a humanitarian level, but it leaves the people with insurance out to dry. If I trusted a government with running good cradle to grave healthcare, I would actually prefer it to our current system, but America is a great example of what happens when the government gets its his hands in too deep on spending. The American government is unable to spend responsibly and is overly sidetracked by special interests.
