The roof is on fire, eh? 28 4, 5:28pm

Actually, the Presidential Mansion wasn't even white before the burning. It was a manor that was built during Washington's time for a centralized location of government; it wasn't even in DC at that point. But after the First Lady had to escape a burning manor carrying the nation's records and vital documents, folk decided it best to move the building away from any British holdings on the continent. So, they put it on an island area on the eastern edge of Virginia, so it would be protected from naval offensives, and they made it white as a middle finger to the British for burning down the original. Our government didn't appreciate them burning down the first one... so it's been white ever since, as a show that they were so unafraid of the British that they made the entire building pure white, something that would easily show fire damage. It's been that way ever since. Heck, they even have an extensive garden of white roses encircling the entire building. Back in the day, it had a new coat of whitewash applied like, monthly to keep it pristine. It sort of spread too... DC is now full of white monuments and buildings.
