@Karen A rose by any other name is still a rose. As for 'African American,' real Africans HATE that. I've been to Africa twice (I'm not sure if I already mentioned this) and they told me, "Please do not call them African-American. They were not born nor raised here. They are American and they do not follow African ways." Just because your skin is black does not mean your ancestors came from Africa (to be technical, we all came from Africa), you could be West Indian. It also does not mean your ancestors were slaves. I am mixed race so should I insist on being called 'African-European American'? No. It's fine to be proud of your heritage but if you are black, I will call you black, if you are white, I will call you white and so on.
