I've gotten the impression that Spanish is quite a big foreign language in Japan, almost as big as English, due to the fact that there is a lot of commerce between Asia and Latin-America.
I took some Asia - Latin-America studies when I was on exchange in Spain, though they were from a political and not predominantly economic perspective. Also one of the other exchange students (though not on those courses) whom I talked to some was Japanese.
