I heard that in some other places that had important libraries during the Caliphate a part of the texts were rescued by the locals, and at least in one place they are passed down as heirlooms they bury in the desert so that they are not stolen, with the amount of books a family has being some kind of status symbol...
I really hope that something similar happened there.
