Date isn't really the right word, more like 'courtship'. Not all marriages are arranged, but due to the combination of arranged marriages and polygyny, there simply aren't enough women to go around. Of the many, many single men, only the ones who've distinguished themselves in some fashion are going to be set up with a woman (sometimes men die before the marriage takes place, especially if the arrangement was from the girl's birth while the guy was already 50, sometimes families call off weddings) or have a woman decide to marry them.

Joining a Jihad used to be one such way to distinguish yourself, though after the brutality of ISIS, not so much. It's important to understand that historically, Jihad was mostly viewed the way the West would view a boy going down to Guatemala to help a village, and Jihad itself wasn't necessarily violent (that'd be Jihad of the Sword). Basically, something for young men to do while they "found themselves" before they were ready to do the adult thing and settle down to raise a family. Such men would come home, and being such "nice boys who care about the world" the community would find them a bride. Now, after ISIS made clear exactly what those "nice boys" really were doing, far fewer want to set their family members up with a Mujihadin. In the longer term this will mean that even among the nutters who aren't turned off by the violence, they are less likely to volunteer because there is no longer any kind of marriage reward at the end.
