'@NeframeTheCosmonaut' considering amount of existing local and federal laws and regulations and the fact that EPA existed for quite a few decades already, lack of reasonable environmental protection laws is not immediately obvious. I don't think that many people considered it reasonable that SpaceX had to delay landings at Vandenberg for a year to assess effects of rockets on local snail population. Measuring impact of sonic booms on harbor seal mating behavior was meme-worthy.

Water covers over two thirds of Earth, any bodies of it are hardly a minority.

Regarding conservative policies, it would be interesting to see what you're referring to.
