I think in most European countries you take your shoes off. I mean, can't understand for the life of me why you want to keep them on in the house since:
1. Even the comfies of shoes are still not as comforable was walking bare foot.(Or flip flops if its really cold)
2. Its very inhygienic to walk in lets say the kitchen or hop on the bed with the shoes you had been outside with.
3. You have to clean the floor and especially the rugs more often.
