The earliest use of the word "bushido" dates back to the Sengoku (Warring States) period, which lasted from 1467-1615, and Sokou Yamaga (1622-1685) wrote extensively about bushido. Unfortunately, he was exiled and so his work didn't become popular until much, much later, around the beginning of the 20th century.
