because our split was in accordance with the 1918 sovereignity agreement where we could end that agreement at first after 25 years.
ww2 had little to do with this, if anything it probably caused Iceland to wait a year and not declare independence in 1943

i am not familiar with any offer of independence between 1918 and 1944
