I think it depends on the way the monarchy is organised and operates. In a country with deep social and economic divides, such as my own UK, a constitutional monarchy is a good unifying symbol and far better that some corrupt politician as the head of state. [Although it could be said that it acts in such cases as an opiate in dulling the pain of a dysfunctional system.] While I don't always agree with King Charles I would actually be happier if he could speak more freely on matter of conscience, albeit that opens up potential cans of worms in the future.
