What choice did we have, tell me? Neutrality means jack-fucking-shit to Putin. After Ukraine, Moldova would've been on his list. Then Finland. We just want to live free and independent, but Russia considers all its neighboring countries its rightful property. The whole of Russia is built around the principle of "if someone else has something nice, I've every right to either steal it, or wreck it".
