In France we have an old tradition (barely still in use) that for the St. Catherine (25th november) the >25 yo. unmarried maiden were to wear a special hat. To be shown off as : please marry me before I'm too old to bear kids. (It was also the day when they went to pray St Catherine to give them a husband)
