Oh man. People seem to be interested how this started, but the origins of the sport is pretty lame. We kinda had these rubber boot throwing competitions just because why not? Well the most common boot was a Nokia boot. When Nokia started to make phones it was just a matter of time that someone got the idea of throwing phones.

We kinda have a habit of making up ridiculous sports because we can only win at hockey. If we make up even less known sport we might win it every year :P

Or we can be the one country that fucks up doping in cross country ski-ing...

Actually, it is international, however the sport originated in Finland. (and, would I like to know exactly how it was started and the story of how people thought of it.)

Wife carrying and mobile phone throwing are just two of the weird sports they have. Others include rubber boot throwing, finger pulling, sitting in an ant hill, sled kicking, ice swimming and mosquito swatting competitions.

@flyingbanana Very much Nokia related. Rubber boot throwing was something we did for local faires etc. Those were usually Nokia boots. So Nokia started to make phones. Why not throw them? It's mostly for fun, but there seems to be a semi-serious phone throwing world championship association nowdays.

We have lots of weird sports. Swamp soccer. Wife carrying. Snow soccer (again? we suck at soccer). Church boat races (not sure how else to translate that, but it's a big rowing boat). The list goes on. Not all of them go international, but we still have world championships for all of them.

Just look at USA and their "Football World Champions".
