Yes, I still live. A teenage SatW Finland in (my attempt at) a traditional Suomenusko shaman outfit. Sources I have found come from paintings of the Kalevala, modern Sami shamanism (which I have read may share similarities to previous Finnish shamanism), and what little I could find on Suomenusko in English, since I have yet to learn Finnish. Please, if you feel that I have misinterpreted any information, have gotten something wrong,or that there is something that can be improved upon, let me know down in the comments. I would love to learn more anyway! If I did okay, but you know more information on suomenusko and are fluent in Finnish, feel free to leave information regardless! Thank you and I hope you enjoy this little drawing!
There is a community called Taivaannaula, in finland, who are trying to revitalize/document finnish mythology and ancient culture and upkeep some of the "holy sites". They have a website as well and it says you can have it in english too, not sure how well/much they've translated. I've gotten really interested in them lately
Goodness. I don't know anything about old Finnish culture, but that drawing is just amazing!
Also, @aurinkolasit @impkat I might not be as fascinated by the topic as you are, but I am very curious and if you guys can advice me an interesting source in English for a real noob, then please tell me. (I'm okay with google translate plus proper dictionary-ing myself through Swedish as well)
Very thankful you didn’t go the stereotypical Saami look. The drum art was personal to each Gothi (hard to write it correctly in English) He needs a reindeer as a companion. The Saami people are in Sweden, Finland, Norway and the Scolt Peninsula so each area is different. Tak Tak. .
@VikingMomSD I mean even though there was some bad blood in the past these days all Finns, Sami that live at least partly in Finland and Fennoswedes are Finnish. You can choose Finnish, Sami or Swedish as your mothertongue for you high school finals. Dunno about how the education works, I'm way too far South for that.
Great drawing and pretty accurate. The ukonvasara and puukko are great details. One small detail tho, is that you drew a heliocentric drum that is more common in Scandinavia, while most Finnish shaman drums follow the three layer world pattern, or a mix between heliocentric and three layer pattern. Basically it just needs a few horizontal lines.
@VivaWorld546 and we have still grandfathers who live it over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and overover and over and over and over again.
