@TheArcherOfBlaze have you read A Medal for Leroy by Michael Morpurgo? If not, I seriously recommend reading, as it has a lot about French and British people being fairly close in World War 1.

the Entente are dicks why? Because they did not let a German pow go visit his dying mother but the Germans allowed a British pow do the same thing
