@ACVE Indeed history gets written by the winners; Russia did a lot of terrible things, both sides did. But well, as I said, winners get to write history.
Japan really receives most(if not all) of the hate in Asia if we're talking about WW2. They did invade Korea and China after all... I like to put it that while Japan invaded Asia, the rest of the Axis powers invaded Europe. This is presumably how they thought they would dominate the world, but no, not really that big of a chance with USA and the Soviet Union on the opponent's side.
