BritishVIking, if Texas had over half the geographic area of the US, instead of just 7%, and over 80% of the population, instead of just 8%, then we might. England has dominated the UK in a way Texas has never managed to do in the US (although not from lack of trying), politically, demographically, economically, and in every other way. Yes, technically those countries would be the children of the UK, not England, but it's a pretty quibbling point for a comic, where one by necessity need to over-simplify things. That is especially true, since this comic is more about perception than reality, and the perception is more that the colonies were of England than of the UK. One can debate its accuracy, but that is reality. Plus, the UK (or listing the components) is awkward, linguistically, than using England.

Ironically, you missed Northern Ireland in your parts. Yes, Ireland didn't join the UK until after all three of the colonies were originally founded, but before two of them were independent, and before Canada was consolidated into one British holding. And actually the US was colonized before Scotland joined Great Britain (although after Wales), as it was then called. Complicated? Of course. That's my point. You're oversimplifying as much as the comic is, so why are you so angry? You want to quibble about technicalities, but yet are guilty of ignoring other technicalities. Let her call it England, it's close enough...
