@Polosha77 Pretty much the same thing here on the Texas coast too. When a hurricane comes the tv meteorologists freak out, but the residents figure that so long as you don't live on the barrier islands, you're cool. Just stay inside a while and have a party.
Tourist: But what if it floods?!
Us: Ummm? It doesn't. The Gulf knows where it belongs.
Of course it helps that I live in south Texas, so there's very few rivers to worry about. And what few there are are normally dry or nearly dry through most of hurricane season.
