Moreover, having nowhere to put them is a reason. These were zoo bred animals, meaning they had no ability to survive in the wild. Even if the zoo could afford to ship them half way around the world. That leaves two options. 1, Release them into the wilds of northern Europe, where they cause untold damage to the ecosystem before starving to death, or 2. Kill them humanely.
As for the dissection, If you have to kill the giraffe anyway, why not get some good out of it, and use it to teach biology?
