Seriously, let's assume the UK imposes tariffs on EU-made cars, and the EU does the same for UK-made ones. The prices of nearly all cars in the UK go up. On the Continent, the three Japanese manufacturers (or the British ones) can't do the same because it would massively hurt their sales. So the only thing they can do is to cut their profit margin on these markets. Naturally, they'll want to make up for this somehow. Now tell me, which market is there where they might see an opportunity to do just that? Perhaps the one where all the other manufacturers just had to up their prices?
As for the pettiness and vindictiveness... pot, kettle, black etc.
