This is because of social media to be quite honest. Hell really just the internet! No one fact checks shit anymore. Liberals are now, and have always been the left. The ones who support change, equality, etc. The reason republicans use it as an insult is because they're known as fascists. They don't like that word. No one does. Because it denotes them as the downright horrible pieces of shit they are. So they try to push this "alt-right" term instead. Though anyone with half a brain knows them for what they really are, homophobic, racist, fascists.
