As much as I agree that the EU hasn't been doing great on that front, it is a good bit more complicated then that, EU does have several advantages, that outweigh the disadvantages enough currently that most want to stay. Though yes, the politicians have been a bit afraid to be seen as racists, and as such reacting very oddly to many situations.
But that said, EU still have plenty of advantages. and general xenophobia doesn't really help, EU is...significantly more democratic then the US, hate to say it, like that but that is pure facts. How those facts are viewed an evaluated is unfortunately, a thing that the latest president shows, just because something is a fact doesn't mean it 'feels' right, and thus apparently, facts can not be true?
This isn't meant offensively, simply stating facts, judging the entirety of EU on the failings of one specific part of it, doesn't quite work, it is not as simple as that.
