McDonalds is more American because of the method of production (it's basically a food factory). You can't really call it american cuisine because its like... 3 dishes. Fried potatoes, meat between special bread slices, and hot dogs.
All of the food in America is either dishes taken directly from other cultures, or dishes proudly derived from other cultures. American Barbecue, for example, has its roots in French cooking, among other things. In Chicago, half the restaurants near my house are explicitly another culture's food, or a bar. Japanese, german, italian, ethiopian, indian, chinese, etc. Then the occasional place, that doesn't define itself explicitly by one culture, mixes styles from a few cultures, or puts its own twist on other cultures' foods.
