@Lumoseo I think you severely underestimate the Kims, they aren't suicidal, they are however more concerned with maintaining their dynasty than with the greater good of North Korea. If china invades them then they are goners, they exist only at the mercy of China.
Essentially they are quite fine with being the rulers of a wasteland, as long as they remain rulers. The US' current strategy assumes they are negotiating with North Korea but they're not they are negotiating with the Kim dynasty and that is what the US got to start realizing with how they are dealing with these things.
