Nick lost all of its connection to religion over time, but yes, only in the South third of the country there's a significantly big portion of catholics. It's mostly a protestant country. It's also traditionally the country where various religions are least busy to kill each other (because, to be fair, protestants, Catholics and Jews have been bugging each other here, too), so that could explain. But all of Scandinavia seems to celebrate Sankta Lucia too, which is also based off a Catholic saint while Scandinavia is mostly Lutheran, so, well...

I thought they had their dinner on the -eve but I'm not sure now...

I spent Christmas Eve unaware it was Christmas Eve :P Christmas and the day after are nationally recognized holidays, but the day before is just a workday. Christmas Eve church services are common, but not nearly as big a deal as in some other countries.

I would never want to spend Boxong day PR Easter Monday in a furniture store, but because these are about the only things open on these days and some people apparently do like those places it became a rather common things to go to furniture stores on those days. And obviously, IKEA is the biggest one.

IKEA is fun to be in, like, once in three years (and the one closest isn't big, famous, and always packed, which helps), but please no more than that!
