@SpinAndWeave Um. I'm originally Minnesotan, While we are quite proud of our heritage our first generation immigrant great whatever parents also *Refused to let the old language be spoken by the younger generation* especially outside the home.

My Grandfather could understand Dutch and German perfectly and barely spoke a word of either because he *Wasn't allowed to by his parents*.

I'm not saying you need to know the language before you join a new nation, but you *sure as Hell better learn it once you get there*. I don't care what country you move too, it's common courtesy.

I'm just fine with people being proud of their roots, but a common language is something that Unifies a nation. Moving (or even traveling) somewhere and expecting the locals to pander to you is the height of arrogance.

Because I know it's going to come up at some point, I admit only speak English fluently but I'm at least conversant enough to be polite in broken Spanish, German, and French.
