I know this is an old comment but you have misunderstood what she wrote.
She mean that it was ironic that people during the Mohammad crisis burned Danish flags to show their displeasement with the drawings since it weren't a way of assaulting the flag. Burning Danish flags was something people did at that time and that is the irony she points out (because if they wanted to show their hate for the country and its flag it was not the right way to do it) the flag burning is not something she just put into her comic to show getting rid of the flag in a respectful way.
