Rich Chinese are actually importing things like baby formula and powdered milk directly from the US or Canada, too--the Chinese aren't any happier about it. No one in America thinks that any of the Chinese export dog or cat meat.
Dog and cat meat are eaten mostly in southern China. They are traditional foods there, though not really common ones, and are becoming increasingly less common because of the reaction of outsiders to it.
