in Switzerland, it's either in the bathroom or, if you have a closet for brooms and stuff, it's there too... but mostly in the bathroom....
the kitchen would be really weird for Swiss people... I've noticed because I use British books to teach English (school choice) and when there are photos of apartments with vocabulary, my students always say: a washing machine in the kitchen?? weird!
