(Calling Sake rice wine is actually a misnomer. "Wine" is defined as an alcoholic beverage brewed from fruit sugars, while "beer" is defined as being brewed from grain starch, but not distilled. Therefore technically Sake is flat rice beer, although generally it is much higher in alcohol content than other beers.)
